GALLBLADDER SURGERY
The gallbladder functions to aid in digestion of fat-containing foods. It contracts (squeezes) down in the presence of fat in the intestine. When a patient has gallbladder disease with stones this causes pain, inflammation and scarring and they then become candidates for gallbladder removal. (Cholecystectomy)

In today’s society, the gold standard for this procedure is the Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy. This method of surgery reduces incisional size, pain and disability. Most patients are discharged on the same day and usually are ready for return to work activity in approximately 1-2 weeks.

APPENDIX SURGERY
The appendix is a finger-sized tube in the right abdomen which is attached to the first part of the colon (the cecum). It has no major function in the body. However, when it becomes inflamed, a condition known as acute appendicitis, it requires urgent removal, which is known as an appendectomy. This procedure can be done in the standard fashion (an incision in the right lower abdomen) or by Laparoscopic methods.

If left untreated it may result in a rupture or abscess and produce a very septic, toxic picture.
